QCAT can hear and determine Consumer – Trader disputes up to $25,000
The Consumer – Trader dispute jurisdiction includes disputes over household goods, vehicle defects, and sub-standard services. These disputes apply the law of contract and the Australian Consumer Law and Queensland’s Fair Trading Act.
QCAT offers inexpensive and somewhat quick determinations of such disputes.
Lawyers are generally not permitted to appear in QCAT but can prepare accurate and persuasive claims and submissions that apply the relevant laws to the facts of the dispute.
