Residential Tenancy disputes

QCAT can determine disputes between residential property owners and their tenants.

Such disputes relate to:

  • the return of bonds;
  • service charges;
  • entry onto premises;
  • subletting;
  • obligation to repair;
  • rental reduction due to the standard of premises;
  • and the keeping of pets.

If you have unsuccessfully attempted to resolve the dispute directly with the owner or real estate agent, you are required to apply to the Residential Tenancy Authority for dispute resolution.

An RTA conciliator will help negotiate a resolution.

Once that process has been exhausted the RTA will provide you a notice that allows you then to apply to QCAT for mediation and hearing.

Our fixed fee package for written advice; claim/defense preparation is $1,500 plus GST. Terms apply. QCAT filing fee (claims only) is an additional $380.
